Happy LOVE day!

The Open Heart
by Tatiana Daversa

Oh Heart…
At times you feel so open
At times I feel so exposed and vulnerable
But that openness, that feeling that my heart is larger than life,
That feeling is so overwhelmingly warm and centering.
I know that is where my power comes from.
The power to love
The power to live life to it’s fullest
The courage to leap, move and shake
The fearlessness that allows me to continue to expand myself
Oh Heart…
With every beat I feel more open
With every beat I expand
With every beat I create
And who knew so much could be created from one single ingredient
Who knew ALL could be created from one single ingredient
“LOVE”
Oh Heart…
You knew it all along
So patiently waiting for my awakening
Oh Heart…
You loved me all along
So unconditionally
Oh Heart…
You know so much
You know LOVE
You KNOW!

Light to All, Love to All, Peace to all!

New “Gong Healing and Yoga” class

Come join me for mySolar Flare new class at The Yogi Tree called Gong Healing and Yoga.

The Gong is a very powerful instrument that can accelerate and amplify our energy. In this class we will be using this powerful sound current to assist in the release of old patterns and promote healing.

coincidentally this class is beginning at a time of unusual hyperactivity of the Sun. We seem to be getting hit with more solar flares this week than we would normally get in a year. This is a great time to set intention and action toward the things you want to change in your life. The cleansing effects of the sun hyperactivity right now will greatly accelerate your power of manifestation. Watch your mind…this powerful manifesting machine is about to get a turbo boost.

“The Gong is always like the Sun.  There is no defense against the Sun. Absolutely no defense. Your mind, your thoughts, your molecules, your electromagnetic psyche, have no power over the Sun… It takes 3 to 90 seconds for the Gong to overtake you. No human mind can resist the sound of the Gong after 90 seconds.” – Yogi Bhajan

“The solar flares and photon waves are changing the fabric of our physical reality as they have a powerful effect on our physical cellular level, causing our cellular memories to awaken and clear….Our lower emotions are low-frequency energy stored in our cells from past experiences and traumas that we have encountered and never processed – so they become stored as cellular memories….Photon energy is a much higher frequency energy that pulls up the lower emotional frequency so it can calibrate to the higher frequency… thus we find ourselves releasing these lower emotions of sadness and grief without knowing why….Photonic energy connects to our thoughts so it is important that we know what we want, rather than we don’t want, otherwise, we will manifest more of what we don’t want.” – Heather Carlini

Valuing the Invaluable

Few of us are fortunate enough not to have any issues involving money. It’s not a question of having money or not, even rich people has issues on this subject, and there are poor people who live feeling prosperous. So what is it about money? One of my teachers says that money is actually one of the most spiritual things, because it will bring to surface any unresolved issues we may have.

Now take all of these issues and combine it with something as abstract as Reiki Healing or any other form of energy or holistic healing, and there you have it! A potential recipe to make some people very uncomfortable.  Many will have no problem splurging some money on tangible items of their liking, but will stop right on their tracks at the thought of spending an equivalent amount of money to pay for a healing session.

Even many practitioners seldom give themselves permission to pay for healing themselves. Not only feeling uncomfortable about paying, but also about receiving money for their own practice.

Trusting in abundance is a very hard thing to do for some of us. Yes, I am including myself on this category, because I can be that way too.

Than I found myself in a critical situation and had to make a choice to either go look into conventional treatment, or walk the talk and go find a holistic partitioner to help me. Well, I didn’t want to go through any conventional treatment, because I knew I needed help breaking free of negative energetic imprints, I knew the work that needed to get done had to reach into other levels of my existence and way beyond my physical body. I was healthy, there was not much a doctor could have really done for me. The answer seemed clear, but somehow, I still found myself stepping on the breaks and starting to ponder … “oh no, I don’t think I can afford this”, “maybe I shouldn’t spend money on this”, etc …

With the support of my wonderful husband, I was able to realize what was going on, and the old patterns that were creeping up, so I plunged forward . This has been the most liberating experience for me. Not only I was able to get myself back on my feet, but I also have been able to heal some of my issues with money. I now know more than ever the value of the work that I do as a Reiki Master. I am much more comfortable not only paying, but also receiving.

If you are a Reiki practitioner, or any other modality of holistic healing, and you are seeing many clients, you should make sure that you go get healing sessions on a regular basis. Of course exchanging services is a great way to do this too, but know that there is a huge value in paying and supporting fellow practitioners, and that will add a lot of value to your own practice.

Healing vs. Cure

Through the history of Reiki, many have reported amazing results and some have even been completely cured of many ailments and diseases…

… But Reiki doesn’t come with the promise of cure.

Many students, practitioners and clients feel conflicted about the use of the word healing. It’s important to understand that healing and cure are not the same thing.

Healing can occur at many levels of our existence, which go way beyond our physical body and mind. Even when Reiki doesn’t help someone to cure from a disease, the healing may be occurring in other forms, such as helping with pain management, giving strength and courage to face the challenges of the disease, bringing peace of mind, alleviating symptoms, or even at other energetic levels that we may not perceive. Much healing occurs even through the process of dying.

Take your mind and ego out of the way and let the energy do the work.

Healthy Pancakes! (made with homemade sprouted wheat flour)

Made with homemade freshly ground sprouted wheat flour.

I have recently started to sprout my grains and make my own sprouted flour at home.

For those of you who may not know, when grains are sprouted the Phytic Acid present in all grains is neutralized unleashing all the great nutrients in the grains that wouldn’t be absorbed by our bodies otherwise.

I am planning to create a post about sprouting grains soon, so stay tuned!

The first time I used my own sprouted wheat flour was last weekend to make pancakes for my family.

The word I have to describe the flavor of these whole wheat pancakes is “AMAZING”! They were soft and fluffy, delicious and nutritious! Continue reading

An Easter message

We just celebrated a big Christian holiday, Easter!

It’s a fun holiday. Some go to church, families gather over delicious meals, Easter egg hunts and chocolate. It’s always great to have an opportunity to celebrate, but often times in the midst of so much happiness and celebration we don’t stop to think about the true meaning of the holiday and what exactly  we are celebrating.

So sometime last week the question popped in my mind.

What is the real meaning of Easter? Continue reading

Minestrone…for a rainy Sunday

MinestroneI love my Mom’s minestrone!

Yes, she is Italian and she is from Tuscany. Her minestrone is the best I have ever tasted…and trust me I have done my fair share of travel and minestrone tasting.

My minestrone is also really good, but not the same as my mom’s. I am an improviser and I like making food with what I have left in the kitchen. And here comes the beauty of the minestrone. The only requirement is to have a lot of veggies available, but you can basically use whatever you want.

Today was a perfect day…for minestrone. Rainy Sunday, not many options in the pantry and refrigerator, except for my CSA veggies that needed to get eaten asap. Continue reading

Praying for our teachers

As I was on my way to work yesterday, driving through the beautiful canyon I began chanting the Guru Ram Das mantra. Often times I chant in my car, but yesterday I experienced something special. After just a few repetitions of this beautiful mantra Gurmukh, one of my yoga teachers, came to my mind very strongly. As I continued to chant the mantra and feel that strong presence in my mind, I began to dedicate that chant, to her. Feeling gratitude for all that she has taught me the prayer became very deep and powerful. I continued chanting and soon began thinking of all my teachers and sent the Guru Ram Das Blessing to all of them. What an incredible feeling. Continue reading

Protection Mantra at work – Aad Guray Nameh

Last night my one year old baby woke up crying several times. She first woke up at about Midnight, and then at about 1am. Both times she was able to put herself back to sleep within a few minutes. Than she woke up a third time around 2am, and this time she was crying really hard and didn’t look like she was going to be able to calm herself. I went to her room and picked her up, but she wouldn’t stop crying. I went through the checklist, diaper, etc…but all was fine. Her cry sounded scared, so I figured she probably had a bad dream. I sang for her a little song from the book “Snuggle Puppy” I read for her every night. She calmed down, but as I tried to put her back in the crib she desperately hung on to me, as if to say: Mommy don’t leave me alone. For a second I didn’t know what to do, and then I spontaneously started chanting the Aad Guray Nameh mantra. She stopped crying immediately at the first sound of the mantra. I kept chanting and with each verse visualizing protective energy surrounding us. She reached a point of relaxation very quickly. After several repetitions of the mantra I told her it was time to go to sleep and put her down on the crib. She did not cry anymore, grabbed her doll, went back to sleep and did not wake up again until the morning.

This mantra is very powerful and can be used in many different settings. One highly suggested use is in the car, before you start driving. Chant the mantra, visualizing protective light around you with each verse. Begin on you right, behind, left and in front. Continue reading

Don’t use your spiritual practice as an excuse to beat yourself up

It is very important when going through the process of transformation that accompanies any spiritual practice, to keep in perspective that the reason why we follow such a practice is to raise our awareness and consciousness.

Techniques such as prayer, meditation, yoga, etc, all have in common the capacity to change and raise the frequency at which we vibrate and project.

As diverse as spiritual practices are, most have in common that they require the practitioner to develop a certain amount of ritual and self-discipline, and that is one of the traps we can fall into.

Many studies have been done and proven on the effects of positive or negative thinking. Thoughts are real and they have the power to affect not only our moods, but also our environment and our capacity for manifestation.

Emotions such as guilt and shame have been found to be of the lowest frequency range, and therefore can be very damaging to the psyche of an individual. Yet, on our spiritual journeys so often we fall on the trap of these negative emotions. Feeling guilty is only taking us further away from that state of higher consciousness, happiness and bliss.

So what to do when we perceive these emotions in ourselves? Don’t feed it. Fight it!

If you feel guilty about an action you have taken. Come to terms with it and move on.
If you need to apologize, apologize sincerely, knowing that who really needs to forgive you is yourself.
Self forgiveness and self acceptance are some of the hardest things to accomplish. Forgiveness, by the way is high up on the frequency ladder. So go ahead, forgive!

If you feel guilty about something that you want to do, but for some reason you are not managing to accomplish. Let it go. Feeling guilty about it will only keep you stuck. Make a commitment to yourself that you will keep trying to make the change. Understand that the state you are in today is not fixed and change is possible if you don’t give-up.

Be open.

Don’t use your spiritual practice as an excuse to beat yourself up. Use it so that you will not give up on yourself.

That is the self-discipline, is the discipline to keep up no matter how many set backs. Is the discipline to  continue to believe in yourself, to know you are capable of change, you are capable of greatness.

You are infinite!

To be or not to be … a vegetarian

Most yogic traditions suggest that the yogi practitioner should follow a vegetarian diet. A Yogi is in a quest to purify the body to achieve the union with the infinite and serve as a pure vessel for life force and higher consciousness. Practicing vegetarianism is one technique which has been practiced by yogis in this process of purification.

Now, this doesn’t mean you have to be a vegetarian to practice yoga, and it definitely doesn’t mean that you should feel guilty about what you eat. Guilt and shame are emotions that evoke the lowest frequencies of consciousness and we practice yoga so we can raise our consciousness.

Yes, I am a vegetarian, but I think that becoming a vegetarian is a very personal commitment that has to be made because you in your consciousness feel that is the right thing to do for your body, mind and spirit. This is not a decision that should be made because somebody else said you should.

Educate yourself – read as much relevant literature on both sides of the spectrum and the ones in between. Once you understand why you should or should not eat meat from a more educated perspective it will be easier to come to your own conclusion.

Listen to your body and intuition – It is important that you keep constantly checking if you are listening to what your body needs and what your intuition tells you. At certain times you might need to change and reconsider your choices because your body is asking you to.

Eat live wholesome foods – whatever diet you decide is right for you, make sure you are eliminating processed foods as much as possible.

When deciding to eat or not to eat meat and animal products one of the main topics to consider is how do you feel about factory farming? Please take the time to get the real facts about the way the animals are treated, the amount of synthetic hormones and antibiotics they are given and the toxic way the animals are being fed. Some of these facts are very hard to look at and most people would rather live in denial and not know, because with awareness comes responsibility. Ultimately we are what we eat and many of the modern days diseases come from the way we are eating and the amount of toxins we are ingesting.

Am I making the case for vegetarianism? No, I am just saying that you need to look at this and if you decide that you need meat and animal products in your diet you should go the extra mile and find organic products from authentic farms that don’t practice factory farming, so that you are not poisoning your body and consciousness by supporting such practices.

If you do decide to be a vegetarian you also need to educate yourself so that you know how to get all the essential nutrients in your diet. A varied diet is very important to ensure good nutrition. Also go the extra mile to buy organic, no GMO products. Many of the products that are marketed for the vegetarian consumer are not healthy. Learn to cook as much from scratch as you can and don’t overdo on the soy.

So. no guilt, no shame.
Expand your awareness and trust your intuition.
Be humble, be flexible, be yourself.

Vegan Banana Bread

Versatile Vegetarian Kitchen: Vegan Banana Bread.

I just tried this recipe today and it is delicious! I did use Chia Seeds instead of Flax Seeds. It worked out quite well and the bread is supper fluffy. Next time I do it, I might try to substitute the Canola Oil to a different oil that might be healthier and wholesome. If you have any ideas for substitutions I would love to hear.

Sometimes there is just no way to avoid the road work

Every time I drive to work I have been trying out some alternative routes to avoid the heavy traffic on the 405 freeway due to the road work currently going on, but it seems that every other route I try, I still find myself sitting in traffic also due to road work.

This morning while driving to work, I had to laugh at this situation and then I came to the realization that sometimes there is just no way to avoid the road work.

I am sure you might be wondering why am I talking about traffic and road work and what is the relation this has with Yoga…

Well, we don’t like when life slows us down and  we desperately try to find all these alternative routes not to let it happen, not to let life slow us down, but sometimes there is just no way to avoid the slowing down. Sometimes there is no way to avoid the work that needs to be done.

We need to have patience and know that it doesn’t matter how slow we are going as long as we keep going we will get through the blockage and we will get to the other side. Avoiding it is not the right thing to do. When the work needs to be done it doesn’t matter how many alternative routes we try to find, life will keep slowing us down until we deal with it.

Getting annoyed and inpatient with the road work doesn’t help. It doesn’t help you get through it any faster. It is just a waste of energy. Who hasn’t had the experience with a GPS system when it keeps rerouting you to alternative routes and you end up getting to your destination later than if you would have taken the slowest route to begin with.

So it is really a question of being patient with life and with yourself, keeping positive, keeping up with the work and moving forward.

One step at the time…You will get through it and you will get to the other side.

Sadhana – an Interesting Irony

First I will explain to the ones of you who may not know the meaning of the word Sadhana.
Sadhana is a daily spiritual practice. Usually recommended to be done during the 2 1/2 hours of the morning before the sunrise. For the practicing Kundalini Yoga teachers/students this usual includes getting up at 3 am taking a cold shower and proceeding to do about a 1/2 hour yoga set and sit in meditation for another hour or so.

I started practicing this way of doing sadhana way before I began my teacher training, and yes, it is hard. Some days more than others are really hard, but after a while you begin feeling the benefits of this intense practice and the day just doesn’t feel right if you don’t do your sadhana in the morning.

Of course after I became pregnant I could no longer take the cold showers, but I kept up with my meditation and some light exercise Than my little one was born and my Sadhana became a completely different routine. My Sadhana became giving my self selflessly to the care of my baby waking up a crazy amount of times throughout the night. And this went on and on and on and then she turned one, and that was still the routine.

Now we are currently teaching and helping her to sleep through the night, and she is doing quite well and for the past couple of nights she has succeeded at sleeping the whole night. I my mind I thought: ok, I will catch up on some rest and when my body has recovered I will than recover my Sadhana. I was feeling quite excited about the prospect of finally getting some very needed rest, but this past couple of nights, even though my baby was fast asleep, my eyes popped right open at 3am with no way to fall asleep again. Something inside me pushing me to get up and take that cold shower, get up and meditate. So I did.

Wahe Guru! I am ready!

Mung Beans and Rice

Makes 8 Servings

Mung beans are high in natural vegetable protein, rich in important minerals, and very easy to digest. They are an excellent staple that you can use as a healing mono diet or fall back on when you need to regain balance in your life. With the addition of brown basmati rice, steamed vegetables, garlic, onion, ginger, and turmeric, along with a dollop of low-fat yogurt, you have a very nutritious and filling meal.

This recipe is very good for anyone who is recovering from an illness; someone who is fatigued; and for people with digestive problems. It is also good for general cleansing-detox at the change of season.

Ingredients:

1 cup mung beans
1 cup basmati rice
9 cups of water
6-7 cups chopped assorted vegetables (carrots, celery, zucchini, broccoli, etc.)
6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 onions, chopped
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/3 ginger root, minced
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1 heaping teaspoon turmeric
1 heaping teaspoon cumin powder
1/4- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red chilies
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
Seeds of 5 cardamom pods
1-2 tablespoon Sea salt

Wash beans and rinse at least 3 times. Look carefully for any little rocks, and take out.
Clean and cut vegetables. Heat oil in large frying pan. Add onions, ginger, and garlic, spices and salt. Sauté over medium-high flame until brown. Add this mixture to the pot with beans and water.

Add all ingredients BUT RICE and let boil over medium-high flame. When the beans have boiled into a gravy looking liquid, about 60 to 90 minutes, add rice, lower heat to simmer , and let cook for another 20 minutes.

This dish is easy to digested, and is excellent for the sick, the elderly, and young children, but in those cases make it less spicy. Kombu seaweed enriches this recipe with minerals and helps make the beans more easily digestible.

How much of your yoga practice are you applying in your daily life?

So the question I want to raise in your minds today is: How much of your yoga practice are you applying in your daily life? Have you stopped to pay attention to that?

I have currently found myself struggling with that. Having a 10 month old baby who still doesn’t sleep at night not only creates the obvious side effects of sleep deprivation, my life seems to have lost much of its structure. I have gone from a moment where my life was very much structured around my yoga practice to a moment where I don’t seem to be in command of much.

Now here is the catch 22. I got pregnant during teacher training. It was my strong practice that led me to open myself and break through the blockages of not being able to get pregnant for almost 2 years. So how could this same thing be interfering with my practice? So then came the realization that it is the yoga which gives me grace to go through these challenges with love in my heart and love for this beautiful soul. It is yoga which gives me the power to sacrifice. So yes, it is hard and is not under my control, but the yogic teachings are being applied and I am leaning into the infinity and trusting this process and I don’t need to be in control, yet I know the correct actions will come out of me if I stay graceful and open to the divine.

Do you take moments to breath deeply in moments of stress?

Do you try to connect with your higher self and try to understand through compassion?

Keep up with your practice it does pay off!

Vegetarian Thanksgiving Recipe

Full of vegetable protein, and a great side dish for the Turkey eating peps
This was completely improvised, so quantities and times are approximate

  • 2 butternut squashes

Cut them in half, put them on an oven pan with the flesh down, a little bit of water on the bottom of the pan. This goes in the oven at 400F for about 20 min, or until the flesh is nice and soft.

When ready, peel of the skin place the soft flesh on a clean baking pan. Add some cinnamon and mix it with a fork and create a mashed consistency and let it sit.

——————————————-

While the squash is in the oven prepare the following:

  • 1 ½ cups chopped carrots
  • 1 ½ cups chopped celery
  • 1 ½ cups chopped onions
  • 1 ½ cups green lentils
  • 1 ½ cups of wild and basmati rice mixture
  • 1 cube of vegan bouillon

Put all the ingredients on a stock pot, cover with water and let it boil

Once boiling, simmer for about one hour

I also added some ground sea salt, ground cinnamon (about 2 tbl spoons) and a little ground coriander

——————————————-

While the lentils and rice are stewing, prepare the following:

  • 1 bunch of Kale chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 cup of chopped parsley

Add these ingredients to a frying pan and sauté it with plenty of olive oil. Don’t over cook the Kale

Once done, just let it sit until the lentils and rice stew is almost ready. At this point ad the Kale to the pot and let it simmer for another 5 min.

Now that you have a mash of squash and your stew is ready just pour the stew onto the oven pan and mix it with the squash. If the stew is very liquid, drain the liquid out before mixing it with the squash.

Add any spices you like and you are good to go. You might want to let it sit overnight to let the flavors mix, and put the entire mixture in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
